Is Maine too generous in providing social services to its residents? Which government benefits should be increased or decreased?

Davis
No I think we need to take care of the truly needing. We need to make sure the truly needed get the services. We are a kind and generous people. We take care of those who are less fortunate. That stated, we should not put up we any cheating or abuse. There is seldom a day that someone doesn't complain to me about EBT card abuse or other programs being abused. These programs are funded by the taxpayers and the government needs to remember that.

Do you support lowering the state income tax? If so, what state spending would you cut to make up for the loss of revenue?

Davis
Yes I think lowering the income tax will stimulate business activity and result in increased revenues. Lowering taxes will help grow the economy. Letting people keep more of the money they own is always a good idea.

Should labor unions be allowed to require workers to pay dues as a condition of employment, regardless of whether the worker joins the union?

Davis
No Workers should not be forced to pay union dues if they don't want to support the unions. Workers should not have to pay union dues if they don't support the unions. I was a union member for a long time and it was my choice. I didn't have to belong if I didn't want to and current workers should not have to.

Would you vote to expand Medicaid eligibility as allowed by the Affordable Care Act?

Davis
No I don't think Maine can afford to do this. I do however know the current system is far from perfect. Medicaid was expended several years ago and the state has had budget problems every year ever since. We need to find ways to help people become insured. I have talked with doctors on both sides of this question and have a lot of opinions. I intend to remain open minded about this.

Yes Regardless who is governor they should be allowed to do this. All governors should be allowed to have this power. I think governor's have far more information and should be allowed this power to keep the state out of financial trouble.

Should lawmakers make it a priority — even if it means raising taxes — to fulfill the voters' mandate to have the state fund 55 percent of the total cost of K-12 public education?

Davis
No Education needs to be a prioity but not by raising taxes. We need to have our priorities in line. Taxes are too high now, raising taxes will hurt the state.
